Review: My EcoCentric Mom Box!

Not too long ago, I had decided to sign up and try out the Ecocentric Mom boxes. Ecocentric boxes are a safe alternative way to try out all natural, organic, chemical free brands on the cheap. As a busy mom and avid shopper,  I love trying out new things. In fact I consider myself a product junkie. There is one thing about the smell of new items that I know are safe for my family and I which really gets me excited.  It could just be my passion that I have always had with natural living.

I know, don’t judge me……..

Ecocentric Mom Box

For example according to Ecocentric Mom Box did you know that tricolsan is a hormone disrupting agent that is present in more than 140 types of products from hand soap to  toothpaste, and even children’s toys. Which can interfere with brain and reproductive development and lead to learning disabilities and infertility.

I know for a fact that is something I try to avoid if I can, the human body readily absorbs things placed on the skin and ingested. You have to make sure you are protecting  your little ones and your health.

That is why I love Ecocentric Mom box! It is a monthly subscription box packages. That sends you full size samples and modest sizes to try in the comfort of your own home. Ecocentric mom box is basically taking the guess work out of it for you on what you should buy.  It will  save you money in the buying process, because once you are able to try out new product samples you will be equipped in the future to know whether or not you would want to buy that product again or not.

Without Having to buy the whole product, than find out after one use you didn’t like it to begin with.

Right…….

I know I have wasted money plenty of times on things like that.

ecocentric

Drop It Or Rock It! Shea Moisture Thickening and Anti-Breakage Line for Thin Hair

Yesterday I had the chance to review the Shea Moisture Thickening and Anti-Breakage line for thin hair. This line features the Shea Moisture organic yucca and baobab shampoo, the Shea Moisture organic yucca & baobab anti-breakage masque along with the Shea Moisture Yucca conditioner which is the leave in.

I have to admit I am one of the few that really have not tried all the Shea moisture products line in entirety to together. So when I  was browsing Walgreen’s one day and saw I could get a boat load for cheap. I jumped all over it, hey what can I say I like to spend money.

So yesterday, when I had some time on my hand, I decided I was going to wash my hair with all three to see if they lived up to what it says it does.

The first thing that I like to do before any shampoo is pre-poo my hair at least overnight with Afro-veda hair oils so that my hair can have a nice sheen and a nice Ayurvedic hot oil treatment to boot. I have been doing for quite some time now. However, I did not have anytime yesterday to do an overnight hot oil treatment. I just oiled my hair and scalp lightly with Afroveda New Methika oil to treat dandruff and stuff…..

The next step I did was detangle  and place my hair into about 8-12 twists so that I could easily wash and unravel my hair in the shower.

I than proceeded to use the Shea moisture organic yucca and baobab shampoo in the shower. When I wash my hair I like to put them in twists. Than take each twist out separately one at a time and wash them each separately. I have tried washing my hair in the twists a couple of times, but I don’t like it. My hair does not feel as clean and I am not able to use the smoothing technique by rubbing my hands down my hair to help smooth the cuticle.

When you have kinky hair like mine you want to smooth the cuticle in as many ways as possible…….

The shampoo lathered up really good, it has a really great slip which made it easy to clean and was my hair really fast.  Anything with great slip is awesome for my type 4 kinky hair. It smelled divine and smooth to the touch. My hair felt soft and not stripped at all. One thing I can say is although my hair felt soft and smooth after the shampoo, it did not feel very clarified.

This is a great shampoo if you are looking for something to cleanse your hair with out stripping it, but at the same time giving it moisture. It does not give the clarified clean feeling. So be sure to rotate this shampoo with a clarifier.

Would I buy the shampoo again.

Yes.

Some of the ingredients in the Shea moisture yucca shampoo include:

  • Yucca Soap
  • Shea oil
  • Baobab Extract
  • Coconut Oi
  • Rosemary Extract
  • Honeysuckle Extract
  • Vegetable protein
  • Aloe Vera Juice

So as you can see there is some good stuff in there.

The next step I took was to use the Shea moisture organic yucca & baobab anti-breakage masque. Now when I applied this to my hair I immediately did not like the way it felt. It has a creamy rough touch to it,  if that makes any sense. White in color, very thick with a mild scent. Not much to bother anyone at all. I am used to some really great conditioners on my hair and this one was not cutting it already just by touch.

So I said hey let me give it whirl and wait until I rinse it out in the shower to give my final verdict.

But in the meantime some of the ingredients inside the anti-breakage masque include:

  • Water
  • Shea Butter
  • Coconut Oil
  • Mango Butter
  • Avocado Oil
  • Olive oi
  • Aloe Vera Juice
  • Baobab extract
  • Vegetable Protein
  • Rosemary extract
  •  Vitamin E
  • Essential Oil Blend
  • Much more……

I would expect with all those great ingredients my hair would love it. However, I am coming to realizing that deep conditioners with a Shea butter base as the main ingredient don’t work that well for deep conditioning my hair but acts more a sealant preventing the other great ingredients from penetrating my hair shaft.

Would I purchase it again probably not. Was it okay, yeah. It made my hair slightly soft after the fact, because while I was rinsing it out my hair felt petty though. So I guess my hair felt stronger. However, I will use the product again, since I did buy it and do not want to waste my  money……..

The last thing on my list was to use the Shea Moisture yucca & Aloe thickening growth milk with biotin and Bamboo extract. This particular leave in is suppose to help with thin and fine hair by thickening and volumizing the hair shaft

I have been going through a period of breakage, which is the reason I am giving the line a try.

I decided to mix some aloe Vera juice about two tablespoons to about 6 tablespoons of the growth milk together. To make sure when I applied it to my hair my cuticles would lie more flat. I like to mix aloe Vera juice to my leave ins because although many come with it already added to their products. Its is a very small amount and not enough to close the cuticle. I use different oils all the time with my mixtures too. This time I added one tablespoon of Avocado Oil to the mixture.

In the end, I test with my ph strips to make sure it is the right ph  before applying to my hair.

Some of the ingredients listed for the growth milk include:

  • Water
  • Shea butter
  • Coconut Oil
  • Mango Seed Butter
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Vegetable Glycerin
  • Aloe Leaf Extract
  • Biotin
  • Yucca Extract
  • Bamboo Extract
  • Rosemary EXTRACT
  • Vitamin E
  • Much More……..

Shea moisture growth milk was okay, not bad not great. I have had better. It is a light weight conditioner not heavy in consistency at all. Since it was so watery when applying it to my hair it took a second for my hair to absorb it.  I’m still on the fence about this one, because my hair was soft, not as soft as I like it or have experienced with other leave ins.

Yet my hair was shiny after the twist out.

Will I buy this product again, I probably will. It  is a light weight and did get the job done. I will keep it to use as a refresher conditioner on those days I need a pick me up.

It will work great for that!

My final verdict is that I will re-use the shampoo, but mainly in the hot warmer months.  The anti-breakage masque is a pass for me maybe you will like it, it does have great ingredients inside of it. Which I’m sure will work great for someone else. The Growth milk, I’m going to keep using to see how it works out as a refresher.

Have you used the Shea moisture anti-breakage line for thin and fine hair.

I would love to know.

Luv Naturals Product Line Review!

Well  guys I had the chance to buy the full the brand new product line from Kim Luv. Which if you follow her you know that it is called Luv Naturals. I follow Kim Luv, and I love her products. This woman has created a full pH balanced hair care product line tailored for women with kinky-er hair textures. She has spent many hours and years researching information, products, even the real science of what it takes to master ethnic textured hair.

I’ve been natural for a good little minute and never have I seen a full line, that worked this well on my type 4b/c hair as well as the luv naturals product line has in just one use. I have to give to Kim Luv, for taking the patience, determination and just pure want to formulate something so special as this.

Now I have to admit the products are a little bit on the more pricey side, but I have been known to pay more on other things so why not make the investment in my hair. In the video below, I do mention that I might not buy the shampoo again. Only because it’s the only product in the whole line that did not impress me as much. I just don’t consider it as great as my Griffin Remedy Shampoo. But that is just my opinion every ones hair responds differently to different things.

Your Hair might love it.

Now when it comes to the Don’t be so Clingy Detangler, the Conditional Love, and the Love me and Leave me in Conditioner. These are my  faves! I am glad I took the time to invest in a small black owned business. Which has created some spectacular products, in my opinion for type kinky hair!

Griffin Remedy Restorative Shampoo: A Review ( Miracle in a bottle )

griffin remedy It’s time for me to reveal the one shampoo that has totally swept me off my feet. Griffin Remedy Restorative shampoo is the best shampoo I have tried thus far for my type 4 hair. This wonderful shampoo in a bottle is the one shampoo that my hair just loves. When I am not washing my hair to clarify it. I use this one cream based shampoo all the time.

Griffin Remedy’s Restorative Shampoo is a gentle cream based shampoo for dry or damaged hair. Not to say that my hair is damaged but it does get dry and can become prone to breakage. Which is pretty common for type 4 hair if you do not take care of your hair properly. I have used many other cream based shampoos in the past, and they were eh, ok. They did the job and I still use them from time to time.

However, this one shampoo is the bomb!

If you have type 4 hair or not you should try this shampoo. It makes washing your a breeze with or without doing a pre-poo to your hair. Because Griffins Remedy’s Hair products are cream and oil based, it makes finger detangling your hair a breeze in the shower. Although I de-tangle my hair before I get in, it keeps my hair separated and prevents it from knotting up again. Through out my whole hair process of wash and style.

The shampoo comes in 8 fl oz bottle, which is the only drawback for me. I love this product so much and I hope they start selling larger quantitys soon. That way I won’t have to stock up so much on them. .But either way, I love it.

Griffin Restorative Shampoo is a cream based shampoo like I said before. Which helps to cleanse the hair while restoring moisture, softness, and manageability. The shampoo has Shea butter and macadamia nut oil for luster and lavender essential oils for soothing whiles you wash your hair. My hair is consistently refreshed after washing my hair due to the aromatic oils.

Another Benefit of this shampoo is that it contains No Parabens, Sulfates, or harmful Chemicals which could be harmful to all types of hair. If you want to know more about Parabens and Why I avoid them as much as possible you can read my post here. (Parabens.)

Here is list of some the ingredients inside the product:

  •  Purified Water
  • Coconut Oil
  • soap bark extract, soap wart extract
  • jojoba oil ( my fave oil)
  • MSM – Helps with hair growth
  • honey
  • vegetable glycerin
  • Shea butter
  • vegetable proteins
  • grapefruit seed extract
  • aloe Vera gel
  • macadamia nut oil
  • Vitamins A,B,C,E
  • Biotin
  • Gur gum
  • Sea Buckthorn
  • burdock Extract
  • Calendula extract
  • Chamomile Oil
  • Rosemary Oil
  • Comfrey
  • Sage Oil
  • Lavender Essential Oil Blend.

As you can see this shampoo has some really great stuff inside of it.

I can say one thing, I found this shampoo at a small health food store close to my home about a year ago, and I said “let me give this product a try”. Since I was still at that time searching for a staple shampoo for my hair. I am so glad I did!

Boy what a steal!

I found this shampoo at a local grass roots health food store, but you can find it amazon too by clicking here.

Happy Washing!

Pevonia Botanica Spa Teen Blemished Skin Mask

I recently had the chance to try out a new face mask cream on my skin. I have always been prone to skin issues and love trying out new things . I recently had went to the spa and got a micro dermabrasion treatment on my face. Then when I was all the done the woman who was cleaning my skin told me I should try out Spa Teen Blemished Skin Mask By Pevonia Bontanica.

Hey, I’m not new to this I love trying out new products as long as they have good ingredients and will not overly dry, or overly oily my skin. I have combination skin which means my T-zone areas which involves my forehead nose and chin tend to be the oiliest and the rest of my face remains dry. So just trying to find the right products have always been an issue.

But, then again because I love to try out new things.

Anyhow, this mask is supposed to help clear out the blemishes on skin or keep them from recurring as much. I know, I know your probably thinking. If I’m not a teenager than why am I still getting acne. Well some people do and I happen to be one of those people. If I even attempt t to eat some processed food or not so good for you food.

Or have a little stress in my life .

Than I’m breaking out.

Point blank.

So I took the product home and it says that I am supposed to apply the product to clean damp skin, let it dry. Than wash it off with cool water.

We’ll that is what I did for a couple of weeks.

The Teen Blemished Skin Mask By Pevonia Bontanica is also organic and paraben free so I felt totally great applying it to my already sensitive combination skin.

As you can see in the picture above, it leaves a off white look and to my surprise it was not heavy at all. I have masks that work really well but they can leave a drying effect on the skin from the hardness that it becomes once it dries.

Teen Blemished skin does not do that in fact it had the opposite effect on my skin, once I rinsed it all off. My skin felt smooth and clean. Not dry at all. But sort of moisturized.

Blemished Skin Mask (1.7 oz.)

Even though, after all that was done I still applied my Grapeseed oil for added over night extra toning and moisture.

Some people will not even need to apply anything at all.

Now did the product help with clearing up my skin issues?

Yes it helped, to a decent degree.

Will I use the product again in the future?

Yes, I plan on using it over and again, it is not the best one that I have tried, but then again my skin is so up and down to a lot of different things. But for the normal person this could be a miracle in bottle for acne prone skin.

I like the product and as of right now. I would purchase it again, because I am curious as to how my skin would behave with long term use of the product.

Teen Blemished Skin Mask By Pevonia Bontanica

  • Contains:
  • Water
  • Glycerin
  • Chamoile
  • sulfur great for skin
  • zinc oxide
  • kava
  • camphor
  • bark oil
  • lemon peel oil
  • Lime oil

Those are some of the ingredients which it contains.

Teen Blemished Mask for acne, is a decent product and one that I will continue to use.  I will give you guys an update to my progress.

I’m curious to know what are some masks that you use on your skin?

Jane Carter Nourish And Shine Review

For the past 9 months are so I have been using a line of products from the Jane Carter Solutions Hair line. I have will to admit that I have not used all the products all though, the few that I have used so far is the Jane Carter Nourish & Shine hair butter for dry hair and skin. Along with Jane Carter Leave in spray conditioner.

I do plan to use more, but at the moment those are the only ones that I have had the chance to use so far. Mrs Jane Carter does carry a line of shampoo products and I will review them in the coming week

The reason that I wanted to share this product is because I am absolutely in love with Jane carter products so far. In the beginning of my natural hair journey when I did not have any hair but a short Shenandoah hair cut. there was not much to do but wash and go’s and spray some leave in on.

Once my hair started getting longer, I was able to experiment with more hair products and styles. I did the whole Shea butter mixed with coconut and my hair did well with the mixture but it was like it was needing something else. It still sort of felt dry in a way, I realized that coconut oil in its pure form tends to make my hair feel crunchy

So when I heard about Jane Carter Nourish and Shine Butter I decided to give it try,  I ended up washing m my hair as usual and letting it air dry in  large twists than I did mini twists with the Jane carter hair butter. What I first noticed was that it was a whole lot creamier and silkier feeling than my homemade mixture. Than it glided on my hair really smoothly allowing me to do my twists out really well with great hold.

My Hair  looked shiner than ever, felt softer by far and even after 7 days passed by when I took the  mini twists out  the mixture gave my hair more definition and shine that it ever had. I have not tried many other butters, because when I do they have not lived up to this particular formulation for my hair.

I have a 4c hair type and this butter works fantastic.

My only drawback for the product is that I wish that for the price that it came in a larger amount which would last me a lot longer, but it lasts pretty long.

Some of the ingredients include:

  • Mango butter – Helps to prevent drying and increase elasticity.
  • Organic Illippe – Moisturizes and allows more hold.
  • Kokum Butter  and Shea butters
  • vitamins A, D,, E, and grapefruit extracts.

I love this product and it is one of my main staples when I do all my twists out and other styling methods.

I’m sure you will love it to!

Have u you tried the product?

I would love to know if you did:)

Natural Beauty Product Review – Three Seed Naturals

I finally got my package in the mail from a great handmade natural bath and body product company Called Three Seed Naturals. Three seed naturals is a bath and body product company that sells handmade body lotions, sugar body scrubs, body creams, and lip balms and lots more.

I was able to get my package pretty quickly and it was rather fast to say the least less than two days, which is great. I am sort of a person that likes to get things right then and there and this really did the trick for me since it got to my home pretty quick.

A plus in my book!

The first thing that I noticed was that it was packaged really nicely nothing was falling out or breaking out of the bottle or anything. Inside was a nice little kitchen magnet that I will be using to place on my fridge to remind me to buy once I run out of the products again.

I decided to use the products that same night, In the shower I used the three seed naturals sugar body scrub in fresh lemon grass and boy o’ boy was that scent to die for. I love really earthy and woodsy scents and this will be a keeper for sure. The scrub is a little more oilier than other scrubs that I have used, but that is good thing I think since my skin was really moist after-wards.

I have really, really dry skin and that was another plus.

After I got out of the shower I tried the Three Seed Naturals Signature pomegranate Ultra Moisturizing Cream which is also made without parabens or phthlates. The cream is really decadent in feel and texture and makes you want to taste it. Smells really good and really did the job for my dry skin needs. I could have left it that way and would have been just fine but I decided to put the Almond Vanilla Everyday Body Lotion on. That stuff is cool and creamy and works just as well as the ultra one; however I like to use both because of my dry skin needs.

I then Top it all off with some jojoba oil to seal in all that good stuff!

As you can see if you would like to get some really cool, smell good and might even taste good all natural bath and body products which are made without parabens and phthlates. Than Three Seed Naturals is a company you might want to give a try.

I love trying out new up and coming handmade bath and body products from new companies, they always seem to put the best love into their products.

I also did a review a video review of the products and you can check that out below.

My Weekend Finds!

This weekend I had the chance to get out and get a couple of things for the house. I am in the process of going through a little bit of a re-organization mode, looking for a way to structure my  home  in all around aspects. From menu planning to children activities and overall healthy living, it is always good to look back at your self and try to find ways that you could do better in and one of mine is organization.

Being with that said, and that my site focuses mainly on healthy natural living inside out I decided to get  this brand new eco-friendly 12” Wok From Kohl’s this weekend. It is part of the food network line of cooking items. I paid 40.00 bucks for it however if you are looking to get a discount you can get it through Kohls for the around the same price.  Its PFDA Free with a non-stick surface and made of recycled aluminum, packaged in recycled paper and soy based ink. We all know that Teflon can scrape and those particles can get into your body and cause problems down the road. I plan to make this veggie stir fry recipe in it tonight that I saw online last week here.

I also was able to get my hands on some oxo 10 piece storage container set for 130.00 but you can get it through Amazon once again for 95.00. Although not all natural it gets the job done and one of those exceptions for me.  I already started using them as you can see here and plan to get more. I even got some new food network cereal storage containers which I use for more than just cereal. You just have to get creative to where you want to store things and make more space.

When It came to Cleaning, I am always trying out new natural cleaning products, some I keep. Some I don’t use depending on their effectiveness. It is always better to clean with all natural products as many mainstream cleaning products tend to contain harsh ingredients that can cause cancer and become dangerous to your family health. To read more about how cleaning products can hurt you please see here. http://www.naturalnews.com/016940.html .

Well the product that I got was a kit of Meyers Cleaning kit which comes with a all purpose cleaner, window cleaner, dish detergent, and a counter top cleaner.  You have the option to choose which fragrance you want, but I have a lemon one and boy oh boy do I love the smell of this stuff. It cleans pretty good also I have to tell you and the whole kit  only cost me about 8.50 for the whole set. Although smaller in size because it is a kit, I find myself only using a little bit because it is very concentrated and cleans just as good.  If you would like to try it you buy through the Meyers site or you can get it through Amazon right here.

Well those are my Weekend Finds and I will be post again some new items that I find on a ongoing basis.

P.S. Don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter to stay up to date with the hottest news in natural living in all aspects.
