Go Green Get Fit Challenge- Week Two

To follow up with  go green challenge I thought I post a little topic on five techniques that you could do right now to start losing weight. I’m no pro at working or no ultimate fitness trainer, but I do know a little bit about fitness and what it takes to stay in shape.

I decided to touch on this topic after talking to my sister today over the phone. Many of dilemmas that she is having with her weight is trying to figure out how to jump-start her fitness routine. Clearly my sister is not in shape, because she was tired  just doing the fitness test. On the insanity fitness program.

I thought that was funny:)

However, losing weight and getting in shape can be tiresome especially for those who have never worked out before in their life. It can really make you feel as if you are not cut out to do it, and push you to give up.  I told her to stick with it and use these little steps that will help her to reach her goals.

So if you are trying to lose weight here are a couple of the tips I shared with her today over the phone. These are things you can do to make weight loss easier and faster. In fact, a few lifestyle changes and new habits can make a huge difference. Here are five great fat burning habits to consider adding to your daily routine right now. In fact it can speed the process.

1. Eat often. It may sound strange but if you eat more frequently you can help your body burn fat and lose weight. The key is to make smart food choices. Additionally, you’ll want to take care to eat smaller meals.

Smaller meals can be anything from a piece of fruit, meal replacement shake, veggie smoothie, boiled eggs and the list goes on. These are considered meals, The point is to eat.

If you generally eat three larger meals each day, try eating 5-6 smaller meals. Make sure each meal has protein, a fruit or a vegetable. Nuts for example are a great snack. So too are apples and cheese. Choose whole grains, fruits and veggies. They fill you up quickly and keep your appetite at bay for hours. Some of my favorite nutrition bars are Kind!

2. Consume Protein . Protein helps balance your blood sugar. In fact protein is broken down slower in the body and keeps you full for and extended time. Instead of the spikes and plummets you experience with starchy carbohydrates and sugary snacks, you feel full and satisfied. You have an even level of energy for longer. And you don’t get hungry or experience cravings.

3. Drink water and green tea. Often thirst is mistaken for hunger. Drinking more fluid each day can help you feel full. Water and green tea can also help flush the toxins from your body. Many toxins affect metabolism, inflammation and the release of fat into your body. Additionally, green tea has fat burning properties. It actually stimulates your metabolism. Finally, green tea also has caffeine which suppresses appetite. All in all green tea is a fantastic fat burning habit to adopt.

4. Walk – a lot. Bodies in motion have faster metabolisms. The more you move the more you burn. Experts recommend walking ten thousand steps a day. That’s about five miles. If you can squeeze in a few ten minute walks throughout your day, you’re going to make that quota easily. You’ll likely also find you’re going to feel better too. If you can’t get out to walk much you can buy the walking dvds and do them in your home. Or keep yourself moving throughout the day in your home. Trust every little steps adds up!

5. Lift weights. Muscle burns fat faster than other tissues. Additionally, a strength training workout can burn a lot of calories while you’re working out, and after. Add a few strength training workouts to your week or lift weights for twenty minutes before your cardio workout. You’ll burn fat faster.

As many fitness experts know. The best way to burn fat, lose weight and keep it off is to change your lifestyle. Adopt healthy habits. Get rid of the unhealthy ones. These five habits are a great start to losing the weight you want to lose. And keeping it off for good.

So what steps  are you taking to stay  in shape? I would love to hear your response.:)

Get Fit: Take the Go Green – Get Fit Challenge

via ecomoma

The Summer has already began, and I have been hitting the beach with the family. Soaking up the sun and enjoying the time in the water. I’m not that great at swimming  I do plan to get better at that really soon.

However, when it comes down to hanging out at the beach or at any event that requires you to show a little skin. You want to be in shape right? Well I do. I work out all the time, but lately I have just been bored with my routines, it seems to be the same oh, same oh. The other part is that with the kids home now indefinitely. I am forced to get creative and find new ways to incorporate fitness into my daily schedule.

That is why when I heard about the Green Fitness Challenge I was all over it. I love new challenges and they always seem to get me revved up again. When you have four small boys and lots to do, it can be hard to get motivated to work out.

The go green fitness challenge was started by Planetshoes.com and hosted by 30 well respected green bloggers to bring awareness to natural living and fitness. The main goal is to motivate and inspire many to get their booty up and work out.

One important reason for me doing this is because according to the U.S. Center of Disease Control 50% of women 20 years or older  are obese and more than half of these women are of  the minority such as blacks and  Hispanics. What a reality check ! This epidemic is something serious and deserves the attention that it is getting now. I know how important it is to fight of obesity, because it touches home with me since my own mom struggles with her weight and adult onset diabetes.  I encourage her all the time to be as healthy as she can because if she lost a certain amount of weight her diabetes would go away.

The go green fitness challenge would be  a boost for  her and I  to help her  become healthy.

So how do I Plan to combat the issue and take the next step. With my goal of staying( I say staying because I am already active, but I have become dormant in my activities) physically active and in shape.  We’ll over the next couple of weeks I will be posting my progress and the little steps I take to get up and moving.

Some of the tools that I will be using will be pretty simple, such as fitness DVDs , dumbbells I already have, my Fitness Ball and Treadmill. I do have a membership to a dance studio to get some extra cardio , so I will be trying to incorporate all that into my routine.

The main thing that I will be using starting with week one is using my membership to Trainwithmeonline. This site has a ton of videos, print outs and workout routines that you can do from the comfort of your own home or at the gym. With out the assistance of a personal trainer. This community gives results!

You can join for free or you could sign up for about $5.00 a month to use the whole thing, it surely worth it.

So for week one:

What will you be doing to get in shape and get your booty moving? I would love to know.

Kind Nutrition Bars: O’h How I Love Them!

kind bars

I have been trying out these new  Kind nutrition Bars Lately. Boy, do I love them. Eating nutrition bars is not something that I have been into, in fact most , brands taste very pasty, chalky and too thick for my taste. Than to top it all off they leave a nasty aftertaste in my mouth. Many nutrition or health bars contain way to much sugar, and are full of fillers and synthetic vitamins.  Synthetic Vitamins in fact are not even utilized by the entire body completely, in fact in some people it could even cause adverse reactions.

So as you can see picking out nutrition bars to eat was never high on my list. Than one day I was in health food store and on the isle I saw these kind bars. These bars kept on getting my attention, I did not try them the first go around. Than the second or third time I went back to the store I decided to give them another try. I am so glad I did. I ended up trying their peanut butter and chocolate combination the first time around.  Man did I fall in love in love with these kind fruit and nut bars, they taste so good!

It was like eating a sneaker bar, but not as sweet.

If that gets you thinking.

I have never tasted a nutrition bar packed with so much deliciousness.

To top it all off, these bars are made with:

  • Ingredients you can actually say.
  • Filled with only non GMO (genetically modified organisms).
  • Very, very low sugar content.
  • Very low calorie content if you count calories, how ever I follow a (traditional foods way of eating). So counting calories is irrelevant to me.
  • KIND’s all natural whole nut & fruit bars put an end to hunger by delivering all-natural nutrients like fiber, protein, calcium and iron. (I know this for a fact because when I snack on them in between meals, I don’t get hungry or experience a drop in my blood sugar levels. )
  • According to a Yale Study, snacking on two kind bars a day can help with naturally suppressing your appetite and reduce overeating.
  • The Kind Bars are high in Fiber.
  • Filled with a ton of all natural protein, with no chemical additives.
  • Completely Kosher!
  • Even Gluten free!

These kind power bars, kind snack bars whatever you want to call them is just what its name implies.  They impart a kind  holistic way of making food and that is better for your health.

Not to mention the fact, they come in all kind of flavors! From Macadamia and Apricot, to almond and coconut. To peanut butter and strawberry, and the list goes on. They include three lines. The Fruit nut line,  the Kind Plus Line  which is packed with a nutritional boost,  than last but not least the healthy grains lines. Filled with ingredients such as whole grains amaranth, quinoa, oats, millet and buckwheat.

Totally a health benefit.

Since I found these kind nutrition bars I have loved them and will continue to eat more. They have become a staple for myself and family and great to give to kids.  I feel as if I have finally found my one true nutrition bar.

When you get a chance give Kind  a try, I promise you will love them.

Ready to give them a try, check them out here!

Motivation Weight loss: My Exercise Tips and Strategies

Well it has been almost a little more than half the year now, and the fall months are starting to come in. Winter will be soon around the corner, the kids will all be back in school and little bit older as each year goes by.

However, at the moment I have been feeling the urge to get back into my fitness routine. I love working out and have pretty much worked out my whole life. I can remember running track, going to weight lifting class and all that good stuff.

Heck I even used to have my own personal trainer certification and worked in a gym.

Well things change and people change, we all go through things.

The past two years were quite a little hectic for me in which I ended moving twice and cutting off all my hair.

In the meantime, while taking care of everyone else I sort of put myself on the back burner and ending up gaining some weight. Not a lot, but enough where all the muscle that I did have has turned to mush.

Something, that I am not used to. I have always had some sort of definition.

So with a new spurt of action, I decided to get back in the gym and take things a lot more seriously!

Yikes:)

I even Hired a personal trainer, got my treadmill out the garage,  and set up a small workout station in the den.

It’s time for Motivation Weight Loss to Take effect………

I plan to document my journey, letting you know what products I might use and how many inches I lost and so forth.

As you can see in the picture for my home gym, I have a bosu ball, a proform treadmill, a workout ball, step, a floor mat and some Velcro ankle weights.

When you are used to working out and then stop working out, for more than a year or so. That beginners pain creeps back up on you the first couple of times you workout.

I know that exercise is great for your health. It boosts your metabolism to help you burn more calories and fat. It also helps your body release hormones that improve brain function, while preventing and reducing depression.

You’d think with all these benefits it’d be easy to get and stay motivated to exercise.

Well It’s not.

It can be really tough to get off the couch.

Here are five tips and strategies to make it easier:

1. Find something fun. The truth is if exercise isn’t fun you’re probably not going to do it. Who wants to stop whatever they’re doing and torture themselves? The good news is that there’s an easy fix. Do something fun. There are lots of activities that are both exercise and fun. Make a list of activities you like. For example, do you like to dance? Play football? Box? Swim? Ride your bike? Hike? Find an activity you love and make it part of your daily life. One Activity that I plan on incorporating is the wii just dance program. I ended up playing with this program over a family members house and loved it, I really broke out a sweat. Zumba fitness is one that I have tried also and love.

2. Make it a group effort. It’s easier to get and stay motivated if you have others who are counting on you. For example, if you and a few friends join a gym and go to the gym together. You can hold your friends accountable and vice versa. It’s a great way to get and stay motivated. You can celebrate each other’s success. You can motivate each other to push yourselves harder. All my friends have really long work hours So I just decided to go with a personal trainer.

3. Make it convenient and easy. Which is easier, driving to the gym thirty minutes away or running on a treadmill in your home? Many people are seriously pressed for time and finding a way to squeeze in a trip to the gym can seem impossible. Especially when you have kids, so most of my working out will be at home, and some gym.

4. Monitor and Track your progress. It’s incredibly motivating to set goals for fitness. Tracking your fitness helps you see what you’ve accomplished. For example, if you’re walking and running with a goal of eventually running a 5K race. Tracking how long you run each day will help you achieve your goal. You’ll
be able to see what you’ve accomplished and how to plan for the future. I decided to download Jillian michaels free fitness plan to see what it came up with. I added her  two phone apps. A motivation app and a slim-down app. Jillian Michaels program is only $4.00 a week and gives you everything you need to get started. Trackers, meal plans and workout routines to get you started.  I am alsotaking a look at diet power to add to my daily monitoring and tracking process for food.  I have always wanted a really tight body and I think watching what I eat really thorough  would help me reach my goals a lot quicker. They have a special on right now to Try DietPower FREE for 15 Days. In part two  I will let you know If I like it or not.

5. Vary your routine. It’s easy to get into an exercise rut. Simply changing your routine and your activity can prevent this from happening. Mix strength training activities with aerobic activities. Take walks. Take fitness classes from time to time.

Exercise is great for you. There’s no reason it has to be difficult. With a few simple steps and some advanced planning you can get and stay motivated to work out.

Stay tuned for part two of my Motivation Weight Loss Challenge.

How to Eat Real Food: Part Two

Recently I discussed in part one  the importance of  how to eat real food. Now I would like to explain why I feel that grass fed meat and pastured animal products are better for you.

I have always believed that “you are what you eat” since what you eat can greatly affect your mind, your health and overall well-being. As in this video on how food can affect your mood. The speaker goes on to say that

Junk food equals junk moods.

I thought this was a powerful statement that really gets you to thinking!

Everything that we eat is made of nutrients, macro nutrients that are the building blocks of life for new cell growth. The human body is always in a constant state of Regeneration and this cannot happen effectively without proper nourishment.

It is sort of like our skin which sheds all day long; when we bathe we are actually exfoliating our bodies sloughing off dead skin cells releasing the new ones to come to the top. The same thing happens inside the body with our cells. The old go away and new ones are formed.

With such a constant pace of cell regeneration, which helps to fight off disease it is best if we equip our bodies with best nourishment. Empty calories or substandard food will only ensure that our foundation for health and wellness is weak.

Eating food that is pretty much factory raised does have issues that come with them. Much of the animals today are raised in factory’s that are meant to make them fat for slaughtering by having them eat empty calories.

If you have not had the chance yet to watch the film Food Inc than I suggest you do so. You can read my official review of it here since it goes into more detail in a video manner about the horrible conditions on how our food goes from factory to plate.

Many of the animals are fed genetically modified craps that has already been sprayed with pesticides that can harm their digestive systems. Cows are supposed to eat grass and roughage but instead they are fed grains and corn to make them fat. Sugars from the corn increase the fat content unnaturally and can cause disease. Chickens are shut in doors and kept from the greens and bugs outside (their natural habitat) in close quarters with really no exercise what so ever. But fed grains and soy once again to fatten them as quick as possible.

If you are what you eat, then what do we hope to become by eating animal products that come from factory farms?

Right.

This is a scary thought and it is one that paved the way for the rebirth of the grass fed and pastured foods movement. A lot of consumers are now looking for safer alternatives by seeking out beef from cows that are grass fed, and allowed to roam naturally with minimal pesticide interaction. They buy farm fresh eggs where the chickens are allowed to roam free and eat grass, seeds, bugs, fruit that is more natural to them.

Grass-fed meat is lean and has a fat content that more closely resembles chicken or wild game. This actually helps to improve your cholesterol levels instead of raise them. While it is low in the bad fats associated with high cholesterol, it is very high in the good fats, the omega-3 fatty acids. All of the nutrition from the pastures they graze translates into lean cuts of meat and delicious milk that are nutritionally superior and much healthier for your family.

Pastured eggs are said to have about 20 times more omega-3 fatty acids than their factory farmed counterparts. The moment you crack open a pastured egg you can tell from the dark orange yolk that you are eating something rich and full of nutrition. They also taste infinitely better than other eggs. Once you try them you will find you be hard pressed to ever go without again.

As the saying goes, we are truly what we eat!

What are your thoughts on the whole Real Food Movement?

P.S. Stay Tuned for Part Three of the series on How to eat Real Food!

How to Eat Real Food: Part One

As I’m sitting here eating this gluten free chocolate chip cookie, I decided it would be a really great time to let you know about a really cool book that I have been reading.

The book is called In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan who is the author of the omnivore’s Dilemma, and may I add a New York Times bestseller.

I have had the book for quite some time now and never got around to finishing it until now and boy what an awesome book! Michael Pollan really delivers in this book. He gives some great insight into what Real Food is and how we can come to know  how to eat in a more conscious manner. Which is not only better for ourselves, but will greatly increase sustainability of the world we live in.

If you do not know exactly what real food is than you might want to take notes.

Just kidding:)

As the decades have passed mainly in the latter part of the 19th century we have been inundated by mass media and marketing claims that the food we are eating is really healthy.

I mean right, who would really have questions about food that is supposed to be good for us, I mean since most of the food we eat is sponsored and given kudos from some of the biggest health associations out there.

But as we all know not everything that always shines is  always gold.

Right.

I mean I may sound harsh but that is just the stark reality of the food that is out there.

So what really is a Traditional Food Diet (way of eating)?

And why have many chosen this choice?

Well first off traditional eating is mainly getting back to the roots of eating, the real core food of what true food is. It is pretty much cutting out all the junk, the processed crap and really eating yummy, healthy wholesome food.

Traditional food is how we used to eat about 50 to 100 years before we had all the commercialized way of eating.

Which is pretty much governed by the food scientists.

Yes there are food scientists that exist who’s job is to take and re-create new ways of making food. That has never existed on its own, but is taken from real food sources, stripped of all nutrient values and than enriched once again( bread) to try to make it healthy.

As more and more companies came into play so did the power and money. Big money was an issue and now not only were they telling us what was healthy for us. The food corporations started to really make us believe that many of staples that have existed for centurys was bad fur us.

Like butter…….

It was this marketing that made us believe that good old fashioned butter would make us fat and that fake butter in the form of chemical laden margarine was actually the better option.

via

They started processing traditional favorites and using marketing tactics to make us believe that these new foods and products were healthier for us, but in reality the companies are taking healthy nourished food in its true form, and depleting it of it true potential all in effect to gain a buck.

They remove the healthiest parts, while adding chemical preservatives and flavorings to make it tasty.

Likewise during that time period when the food corporations were just getting started they had to find a way to make many believe that the lard, or grease from animal products would make them fat. Never mind the fact that fake oils like processed vegetable shortening is actually really what will make you fat.

Not to mention the fact that low fat and skim milk is not all that they claim it to be, in fact your body needs fat to survive. The brain is made up of fatty tissues and needs good fats to function at its maximum peak.

Good fats such as good oils like coconut oil, olive oil, and real animal fats.

Real fat foods that nature provides are almost always better and healthier for us than what can be made in a lab, where critical fat-soluble vitamins A, D, K2 are often lost or removed. While at the same time many of foods we eat today are packaged in plastic bags or tin cans with with BPA (Bisphenol A) liners that can leach toxic substances into our food.

That is why many today are going back to a more traditional way of eating, the real food way.

I am not saying you have to go all gung ho, and drastically change your life to eat the real food way.

What I am saying that every little bit helps. When you start to eliminate the artificial , processed , colorful , pre-packaged foods. And start shopping locally by going to the farmers market, natural health food stores and buying fresh produce you will have already started a new way a eating that is more healthy and delicious for yourself.

Clever marketing may have made us temporarily believe that scientists could engineer better foods but vast increase in degenerative diseases afflicting us over the past few decades has made many of us rethink this position. If food is to be our medicine than we need to give the foods we eat a vast deal more consideration and return to traditional foods.

Here are a list of resources that you should look into if you want to know more about eating real food and a traditional way of eating.

Weston Price Foundation - A great resource for learning about what traditional eating is and why it is so important. You should read this information great enlightening source of valuable material . Will leave you speechless.

The Nourishing Cook - Great Site for learning some real food recipes easily and ready for cooking.

How to Boost Your Immune System Naturally

I am continuing the series on learning how to improve your immune system for the fall months, if you have not read part one you can do so here. The second part of this series is to discuss different ways in which you can boost your immune system, and the many natural ways to boost your immune system.

In part one I told you that the human body produces its own cells to fight diseases like cancer and many viruses. But the human body is susceptible to sickness if it is not up for the fight, against free radicals.

Let’s go back to the beginning. The body continually replenishes its cells. Through a process called cellular metabolism, the body produces energy, more cells and repairs any damage. One by-product of cellular metabolism is unstable molecules called free radicals.

Free radicals are molecules that damage your body. They are unstable because they are missing an electron. To get another one and become stable, free radicals will steal electrons from cells. That theft damages the cells in a variety of ways.

The results are visible and invisible changes to our bodies. The development of diseases like cancer, diabetes, arthritis and neurological deficiencies may begin to affect you as you age. Also, thinner skin wrinkles and brittle bones are a problem. Free radicals enter our body from outside sources as well: cigarette smoke, radiation and the sun’s UV rays. The more free radicals we encounter, the greater the damage that can be done.

The one great helper is Antioxidants; antioxidants have been shown and proven in many studies to help the free radical problem. This is the main thing that can cause us to have a compromised immune system.

Antioxidant substances combine with free radicals and neutralize them. Once they are neutralized, they can no longer do any damage. Scientists don’t have any idea of a recommended daily dose of antioxidants to correct free radical damage and the diseases that come with age, but they do know that eating foods rich in antioxidants makes a huge difference in how we live.

So you might ask what are the best foods containing antioxidants to boost your immune system. Check the Farmers market and natural or organic health stores for fresh fruits and vegetables. The sooner you eat food that is taken from the earth to your mouth. The higher amount of nutrient density  it holds and the better chance you have of fighting off free radicals. Many don’t know this but each day after a fruits and vegetables are harvested they continue to lose nutrient value as each days goes by. So They are all around us. Look no further than your local farmer’s market or produce aisle in the grocery store. Fruits and vegetables contain the principle sources of antioxidants.

Examples of antioxidants include:

* Vitamin C

* Vitamin A

* Vitamin E

* Lutein

* Lycopene

* Beta-carotene

Certain minerals like zinc and selenium also function in the body. They are not antioxidants but they boost the immune system to fight against free radical damage.

Antioxidants are also found in nuts, legumes, cold water fish, seafood and red meat. So, eating a varied diet of fruits, vegetables and the foods just named will increase the amount of antioxidants in your system and help reduce the incidence of disease. Eating fruits and vegetables in their natural form instead of juices brings the benefit of other nutrients found in the foods. Juices also contain a lot of sugar that is not needed by your body.

Food does more than stave off hunger. Natural substances found there can cause us to live longer and stay free of disease as we age.

There are many other natural ways to boost the immune system. Many studies have shown that incorporating stress reducing exercises into your life can go a long way. Practice things like relaxation techniques and mediation. I have found mediation to be critical for me in regards to balancing mind body and soul.

Exercise also plays a role in helping the body to have a stronger immune system.

No reputable researcher will claim that exercise will repair a weakened or diseased immune system. Nonetheless, a broad spectrum of studies confirms that moderate exercise can help sustain and strengthen it, even when the effects are indirect.

Regular exercise helps relieve stress. It does so directly, by providing an outlet for, and consuming much of, the nervous energy produced by stress. It also helps indirectly by shifting one’s focus away from the external factors producing the stress.

Exercise can help the cardiovascular system, by improving blood flow which carries away all that yucky toxic stuff out the body. It gets it away from the main muscle, organs and keeps the endocrine system working well!

This is a plus!

Exercising on a regular basis also helps to raise the body temperature, when you have a cold your body’s natural response is to kill of infection germs by raising your internal body temperature which is a fever.

Whether the effects are direct or indirect, exercising can help you support and enhance your immune system. That leads directly to better overall health.

Learn How To Improve Your Immune System – For the Fall Months

Now that we have entered the fall months there is inevitable chance that we might likely somehow come into contact with someone who has the flu. Or possibly end up getting some sort of viral infections ourselves. And recently with all the new reports of super strains of viral infections developing, and mutations of ecoil bacteria becoming to resistant to antibiotics, would that not urge all of us to take a look at our state of immunity to see if it is really up to par. Even if it is able to ward off viral and bacterial infections this season.

According to flu.gov it states that In a typical year, approximately 5 to 20 percent of the population gets the seasonal flu. Flu-related deaths range from 3,300 to 48,600, Quite a number for something that most people already have had and have some sort of natural immunity to already.

Flu like symptoms can range from anything from a runny nose, sneezing, headache, body aches, fever and chills. And the list continues to go on with coughing, sore throat and even some nausea.

So the question really is how can improving your immune system help you to ward off these pesky little viral infections. Or, for the most part make them less as serious if you do have a case of the as I call them the sikies this season.

Well to begin with the immune system helps to protect the body from harmful bacteria’s, viruses and many harmful organisms that could enter the body. From everything to what we eat, wear, stress, physical activity levels can all play a part in a weakened immune system.

When your is a weakened state it is less able to fight off a virus when it comes along. Imagine for a moment you are heavy weight boxer, and you only trained half the time for the big fight. When the actual day comes for the real fight your body is not as strong as your opponents and you have a higher chance of losing the fight.

The same thing happens with your body, our immune system produces its own cells to fight off disease and infection through the thymus gland and spleen and a couple of other organs. The cells are than are transported to lymph vessels which create a barrier against infection.

Now these cells can be damaged by unhealthy, running wild oxygen molecules in the body called free radicals from poor nutrition, smoking, alcohol, and environmental pollutants and the list can go on and on. When these free radicals produce they produce in high numbers making you immune system really in a awful state.

So now what can you do to improve your immune system?

How Food Impacts Your Mood – And The Real Food Revolution

Did you know that the food you are eating can actually be doing you more harm than good. Well its true even if you think you are eating right and dieting than you might just be in for a big surprise. Many wonder why they feel the way that they do, with hypertension, headaches, insomnia, thyroid problems and all sorts of issues.

The way that we eat even affects our children and can exhibit itself in the form of hyperactivity, sleeplessness, obesity and even the inability to not hold their attention for long sorts of time. As you guys know I am mom of four boys and I have one son that has been dealing with chemical imbalances in his brain for quite some time now.

When I say chemical imbalances I am referring to hyperactivity and more things in which he has been evaluated and I refused to place my son on medication.

That is when I really started to learn more about how food affects the brain and the body, especially in kids with problems such as these.

I continued my long journey on learning more about some of the issues he was dealing with, until I came to learn about real food and the real food movement. Which was something I was pretty much doing at the time on my own already.  However I was able to learn tons of new stuff about how what we eat can actually affect our mood and our whole bodily functions. To the point of being able increase our lifespan or reduce it.

That I why I wanted to share with you some of the information I have known about for quite some time now. I wanted you to know more about why eating real food is ten times better for you and why it’s so great for your heart and immune system.

I have a couple books that I have read and will be doing a review on them, really soon!

The first one is the Nourishing Traditions Cookbook An excellent beginners guide that I refer to time and time again when preparing real food.

And the Second one is The Untold Story Of Milk makes you think why everything you thought about milk is wrong and what sort of milk you should be drinking!

Lots to come on these two reviews soon in my what I am reading book section.

I urge you to take a look into the real food for rookies e-course to get a great head start into what real food is and how it can benefit you in the long run.

You can learn more about that course here!

Till than check out this awesome video!

Here is a great video intro on how food can impact your mood and why you should get to thinking about what you are really eating.

P.S. I would love to know your thoughts on the whole issue and even if this is something that has sparked your interests?
